Edith Marilyn Wait, 79, passed away on July 25, 2017. Visitation will be from 1-2pm, with service at 2pm, both Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Speaks Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
Marilyn was born on Oct. 6, 1937, in Independence, MO, to Bert Joseph and Marie Elizabeth (Wisecup) Overbeck. She graduated from Northeast High School in the class of 1955, and married Alvah Wait Jr. that same year. Together they were blessed with three children. She was supervisor of housekeeping for Independence Regional for over 20 years. She was able to travel to 48 states and Rome during her life. She also loved gardening, sewing, playing games, and enjoying the company of her family. Marilyn was an amazing wife, mother, mother-in-law, grand-mother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend to all. She loved Jesus Christ and worshiped Him since 1954 in Blue Summit Baptist Church. She continuously gave of her time, love and compassion to others. While battling many health issues throughout her lifetime, she still managed to volunteer in her church by working in their food ministry, Bible school, Sunday school and any other projects that were needed for over 60 years. The food ministry was given a Lifetime Achievement award for their outstanding work. She was always there for her family and friends and loved everyone unconditionally.
Survivors include her husband and best friend of 62 years, Junior Wait; daughter, Susan Richardson (partner, Bob Stewart); son, Jeff Wait (wife, Robbi); 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 4 siblings; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Toni Lee Baker Wait; grandson, Jason Alan Richardson; parents; and 3 brothers.
