Lois Walker

Lois “Leato” Maxine Walker, 88, Independence, MO was welcomed into her Lord and Savior’s Arms on Wednesday, January 26, 2011.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1915 N. Liberty St., Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church; the Baptist Children’s Home; or the Knights Templar Eye Foundation.

Lois was born January 18, 1923 in Siloam Springs, AR the daughter of Robert R. and Alberta Blanche (Hogue) Layne. She tutored students while in high school for college credit before her marriage to Kyle.She later worked for Boeing and retired after 22 years with Macy’s on the Landing. Lois was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of WMU. She was a member and Past President for the Social Order of Beauceant #150. She was also a member of the following: Order of the Eastern Star #329; Alpha Phi Sorority; and the Missouri Extension Club. Lois enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, camping and fishing, and spending time with her poodle Sandy. She had designed and sewed both her daughters’ bridal gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses. Lois was very proud of her Cherokee Heritage and also her Irish Heritage.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Kyle in 2000, brother R. J. Layne, and her parents. Lois is survived by her son Michael Walker and his wife Gwynda of Bella Vista, AR; daughters Betty Wilson and her husband Raymond of Bolivar; and Kathy Coonts and her husband Garry Coonts of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Dale Walker, Sabrina Steers, Ashley Dipley, Lauren Berry, Julie Berry, Ray Wilson Jr, Amanda Krell, Justin Wilson, Emily Coonts and Jennifer Moor; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister Betty Lou Walker; brothers, Jack and Bobby Layne; and many other loving family members. The family wishes to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice.
