Margaret Lucille Summers was born April 19, 1926 at Chicago Heights, IL Hospital to Bert and Clara Summers of Benton, IL. She was youngest of three children. Her sister Mildred Summers was the oldest. Her brother Paul Albert Summers was the second oldest. She grew up a member of the Church of God. She was very active in the church and a devout Christian. That is where she met the love of her life, Hayward Douglas Walker. Margaret married Hayward in 1942. They had seven children: Hayward Rex, 1944, Terry David, 1946, Jerry Wayne, 1948, Sandra Lea, 1951, Roger Alan, 1955, Kerry Michael, 1960 and an infant daughter, Cynthia Ann who died shortly after birth. Hayward was in the military service for five years. During that time, Margaret worked for a Defense Contractor. After Hayward was discharged from the service, they moved to Kansas City, MO. Hayward worked as a Manager in the Service Industry. Margaret was the Food Service Supervisor at Children's Mercy Hospital for 15 years until she retired. Margaret enjoyed 32 years of marriage until Hayward passed away in 1974. After retiring, Margaret moved back to Benton, IL to take care of an ill family member. She stayed there until 2004 when she moved back to Kansas City, MO where she lived with her daughter, Sandy. She was a life-long member of the Church of God where she enjoyed being an active member. Margaret enjoyed going to the Lake of the Ozarks, traveling, and visiting family. For her 60th Birthday, her family treated her to a trip to New York City where she had a wonderful time with her sister. She travelled to Tennessee and Wisconsin to visit family members. To help her church, she would make homemade candy. With the help of her children, they would sell it to neighbors and give the money to church. Margaret didn't smoke or drink, but she loved to play the slot machines at the K.C. casinos.
Margaret is survived by her son, Hayward Rex Walker of Kansas City, MO; son Jerry Wayne of Kansas City, MO; daughter Sandra Lea Young of Kansas City, MO; son Roger Alan Walker of Kansas City, MO; and son Kerry Michael Walker and his wife Margaret, of Cudahy, Wisconsin; a daughter-in-law Charlene Walker of West Allis, WI.
