Mary Frances (Stacy) Walker, 74, of Independence, MO, peacefully passed away at home on February 8, 2023. Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will follow the Rosary starting at 9a, February 14, 2023 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3726 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Cremation will follow services. The family suggests contributions to the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City.
Mary was born on April 25, 1948 in Kansas City, MO, to Perry and Frances (Lalumia) Stacy. She attended St. Aloysius School and graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School in 1966. Mary enjoyed working at her sister’s restaurant Las Chili’s for many years. She was a staunch supporter of Lakeview Woods State School in Lee’s Summit, MO. and volunteered at the Rehabilitation Center of Independence, LLC. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Parrish where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Mary prided herself on being a doting wife and mother. She was the ultimate warrior for her son Shawn whose life she fought for until his untimely death in 2010. Mary enjoyed cooking, crafts, baking Italian cookies, the casino, and her life-long friends and family.
Mary was preceded in death by her son Shawn Walker; sisters Rita Steffes, Shirley Counti, and Andrea Jones. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ronnie Walker of the home; sons Jason Walker of Overland Park, KS and Carl Cessor of Liberty, MO; brother Joseph Stacy of Independence, MO; nieces Frannie (Geoff) Bollinger and Tina Steffes; grandchildren Nina and Lantz Cessor; brothers-in-law Larry (Iris) Walker, Stephen Steffes, sister-in-law Lou Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was the perfect mixture of strength, courage, perseverance, and sass. She will be missed immensely by everyone who knew her. Even though she is gone, her humor and strength live on through a lifetime of beautiful memories.
