Mary Walker

Mary “Chris” Walker was born on June 27, 1929 and died December 31, 2015. She was born in Halstead, KS to Martin Luther Brakebill, M.D. and Mary Irene Brakebill. She moved to Sharon Springs, KS in 1942 during her 7th grade year and later graduated from Wallace County Community High School in 1946. She then attended Kansas State University for a year and a half. She married Orville Walker, Jr. in 1948, While her husband was an undergraduate and then attending medical school, she worked various jobs including the tumor registry at the KU Medical Center. When her husband finished school and residency training, they moved to Independence, MO. While raising a family of 4 children, Chris was active in the Independence Regional Auxiliary, the Junior Service League and a number of dinner and Bridge clubs. She was a devout Christian and member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Kirk Allen Walker; brother William Brakebill; her parents Dr. and Mrs. Brakebill; and her mother and father-in-law Irma and Orville Walker. She is survived by her husband Orville Walker, Jr, M.D.; daughter Anne Walker and husband Tom Rupert; 2 sons Dr. Gregory Walker and wife Dr. Teresa Walker, Todd Walker and wife Janet; sister Doris Waeldin; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Chris was a fun loving person, a loving mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday January 4th, 2016 from 1-2:00 p.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052 followed by a 2:00 p.m. service. Interment will take place on Wednesday January 6, 2016 in Sharon Springs, KS at Sharon Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or a charity of their choosing.
