Marilynn Louise Walkinshaw, 88, Independence, MO passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Marilynn was born March 6, 1926 in Chillicothe, MO the daughter of Ralph Ray and Tommy Esther (Crowley) Mallen. She was a Paseo High School graduate in the class of 1944. After studying at the KC Art Institute, she worked for Hallmark as a lettering artist before spending a majority of her life as a homemaker. Marilynn was a member of the Jaycees Wives, and the First Christian Church of Independence where she served in the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed doing calligraphy for friends and family and was an avid bird watcher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Coleman Walkinshaw; and her parents.

Survivors include her son, David Walkinshaw and wife Mary, Cris Walkinshaw and wife Cheri, Patrick Walkinshaw and wife Tena; grandchildren, Nick, David Ray, Jr, and Neal Walkinshaw, Jamie Bechthold, Sally, Emily, Danae, Nadia and Sean Walkinshaw; step grandchildren, Crystal Osborne, Dustin and Ciarra Wollshlager; eight great grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Estes and husband Jim.

Memorial services will be at 3 pm Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the First Christian Church of Independence; 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charities of your choice.
