Peggy Ward (Rice)

September 27, 1947 — December 10, 2018

Peggy Ward, 71, a mother, artist, friend and philanthropist, died December 10, 2018 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Besides her contributions as an artisan and volunteer “blanketeer,” Peggy will be remembered for her fearlessness, ingenuity, good humor and warmth. She was a loving mother, trusted confidante and loyal friend. She is survived by her children, Heather Burton, Tiffany Ward and Brad Ward; her step-mother Carrie Ackerman-Rice; her children’s father Darrell Ward; and her “sisters from another mother” Rhonda McLearen, Marsha Cox Metcalfe and Carolyn Kiefer Courtney. In Peggy’s memory in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Project Linus, the children’s foundation in which she donated so much of her friendship, time and talent hand-making quilts and afghans: https://www.projectlinus.org/donations/ Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel 816-373-3600)
