Edward R. Waterman, 87 of Independence, MO, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at St. Luke’s East Hospital, Lee’s Summit, MO. A visitation will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO, 64052. Funeral services will begin at 10:30am on Saturday following the visitation at the funeral home with burial at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Edward was born on October 2, 1934, to Russell J. and Edna C. Waterman in Independence, Missouri. He had three siblings whom he loved very much: Bernice, Louise, and Russell. After serving his country for five and half years in the United States Air Force, Edward married Erma Jean Waterman on April 15, 1962, and they resided in Independence, MO where they recently celebrated sixty years of marriage. They were loyal neighbors, treasured friends, and always went above and beyond to help people in need. Ed worked more than 34 years for the Kansas City Public School District as a ground’s foreman, owned his own janitorial business, and worked for his son’s real estate business. In his retirement he worked on his long sought after 1962 Thunderbird Roadster, going to car shows and events with his T-Bird Club friends and his best friend, David Thatcher. Ed was the proud father of Edward Alan Waterman (Kristi Hettrick) and beloved grandfather to Sawyer, Max, Casey, and Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Jean, his son, Alan, his brother, Russell, and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Anyone who was lucky enough to know and love Ed will remember his quiet acts of generosity, his sense of humor and twinkle in his eye, his deep love for his country and his faith. He was always delighted by life no matter his own circumstances and extended kindness to every person in his path.
Contributions in memory of Ed Waterman can be made to The Veteran’s Community Project or Children’s Mercy Hospital.
