Marvin E. Weeks, 98 of Independence passed away Sun, Jan. 8, 2006 at his home. As per Marvin�s wishes, his body was donated to KU for scientific research. A memorial service will be 3 pm Saturday, January 14th at Harvest Hills, Oak Cluster Community Center. In lieu of Flowers contributions are suggested to Odyssey Hospice. Major Weeks was born Sep. 1, 1907 in Fulton, KS to George and Caroline (Clow) Weeks. He had been a Major in the US Army retiring in 1948. Major Weeks had led an Army team to Alaska to test lubricants in -65 degree temperatures. It was known as "Operation Greaseball�. Those tests led to the development of 10w30 motor oil. He was an avid gardner and loved to show his garden and to share its bounty with others. He had traveled extensively from 1948 until 1963. At the age of 8, he was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In recent years he had written a concordance of the three Standard Scriptures of the Church. Major Weeks was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Weeks. He is survived by seven nieces and nephews, Ardyce Plumlee, Bill Strong, Dan Strong, Harold Weeks, Arlene Graham, Merlyn Risser and Alice Ruble.
