April Weiss, 69, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, January 22nd 2013. A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Friday February 1st at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street Independence. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday February 2nd at the chapel.
April was born June 9th 1943 in Paris, TN to Harlan Crawford and Loetta Love (Stephens) Tyler. She was one of four children. She graduated William Chrisman High school in 1961, and attended Graceland College. April married John Michael Weiss on October 15th 1966. Together they had two children and a very special niece. She was a life long member of the Community of Christ. April worked as office manager for KCP&L IBEW #412 for 20 years. After retiring in 2001 she purchased an RV and pursued her passion for traveling to national parks, gardening, scrapbooking, photography and knitting. She was also affiliated with many organizations including PTA president for Sycamore Hills Elementary, book clubs, stitch groups, and XYZ clubs. Her family describes her, “always making beautiful things and made things beautiful!” She is loved and will be missed.
April is survived by her husband Mike, of the home; son, Christopher Scott Weiss and wife Ann Marie of Greenwood, MO; son, Kevin Michael Weiss and wife Laura Lynne of Blue Springs, MO; special niece, Jocelyn Marie Gilbert and husband Greggory of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren, Lauren Marie, Tyler Scott and Connor Warren Weiss; Gaeli Love, and Logan Michael Weiss; William Peyton, Anna Ruth, and Elaine Marie “Ellie” Gilbert; brothers, Steve Tyler and wife Peggy of Platte City, MO; and Jeff Tyler and wife Sue of Independence, MO, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Priscilla (Tyler) Peyton.
