John Michael “Mike” Weiss, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2021 with family by his side. He was 79. Mike was born to Albert and Marie Weiss on July 21, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri.
After graduating from St. Mary’s high school Mike found and married the love of his life, April and they began a lifetime of making memories. Together they had two children and a very special niece. Mike was a hard worker and dedicated 32 years to MoDOT before retiring in 1996. He enjoyed family vacations to the river and endured many RV adventures with April. Mike was an avid fisherman and his favorite spot was where the fish were biting. He was a member of the Strikers Bass Club. Mike enjoyed hunting, working on boat motors and taking part in the local classic car shows. He was the proud owner of a 1965 Ford Galaxy Convertible. Mike loved his family fiercely and will be missed beyond measure.
He is survived by his sons, Chris Weiss (Ann) and Kevin Weiss (Laura); special niece, Jocelyn Gilbert; brother, James Weiss (Mary); grandchildren, Gaeli and husband Daniel, Logan, Lauren, Tyler and Connor Weiss; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike is preceded in death by his beloved wife, April; parents and his sister, Cathleen Sutton (Weiss).
Mike’s Celebration of Life will take place at 1pm on Sunday, October 17th at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will follow from 2-5pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the KC Hospice House in memory of Mike.
