William Richard “Rich” Weitkemper, 72 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Monday at the chapel. Rich was born December 10, 1944 in Seattle, WA to James Otto and Nelda E. (Crounse) Weitkemper. He graduated from Richmond Union High School in Richmond, CA and Contra Costa Jr. College in San Pablo, CA. He lived most of his life in California we he owned and operated a successful advertising agency. He served in the US Army National Guard during Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn in September of 2016. Survivors include; a daughter, Lisa Weitkemper of Independence, MO; a son, James Weitkemper of Independence, MO and his father in law, Baylor Leatherwood of Ukiah, CA. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Claudia Sanders.
