Dr. Eugene S. Welter, 87, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away May 5, 2017 at the Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Unit. Memorial Mass will be at 11 am, Thursday, May 11 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055; cremation. Visitation will begin at 10 am, before the service at church.
Eugene was born Aug. 7, 1929 to Stephen and Marguerite Welter in Aurora, IL. He was a graduate of Marmion Military Academy, Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in 1954 (M.D.). He interned at Cook County Hospital. He passed his Boards for Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine in 1977. He served as President of A.A.F.P. in 1980-81 and published many articles on Occupational Medicine. Eugene married Maryann (Even) on July 23, 1955 sharing sixty-one and a half happy years together. In August, 1955, as a Lt. in the U.S. Navy, he and his wife spent two years on the island of Guam delivering babies for Navy personnel. His hobbies were golf (he had a hole-in-one!) woodworking and was passionate about collecting Depression glass. He was very active in his church and was a daily Mass attendee after his retirement. Eugene is survived by his wife Maryann; children Sharon Jo Kovacs and husband Richard, Bethlehem, PA; Alan Eugene Welter and wife Lisa, Los Lunas, NM; Maryagnes Moore and husband J.B., Marshall, AR; granddaughters Sara Jo Kovacs, Pittsburgh, PA and Ann Kovacs, Quakertown, PA.
