Henry R. Wenger, 83, of Independence, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2003 at his home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2003 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, with burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The Family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice. Henry was born January 19, 1920 to Rudolph and Margaret Wenger in Max, ND. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Wenger worked as a driller for the Corps of Engineers from 1945 until he retired in 1980. After his retirement he went to work as the Head of Maintenance for GEHA Insurance. Mr. Wenger loved spending time tending to his vegetable garden, and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Wenger was preceded in death in 1969 by his son Jeffrey Wenger, who was serving in Vietnam, and 6 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Wenger, of the home; two sons Gene Wenger, and Judy Niemeyer, Lake Lotawana, MO; Wayne and Roxanne Wenger, Blue Springs, MO; two daughters, Mary and Howard Hoff, Independence, MO; Brenda Huddleston and Jake Whitmire, Independence, MO; eleven grandchildren: Catlin Wenger, Kelley and Lyndsay Wenger, Stephanie and Jeffrey Hoff, Rachael, Tad, Luke, Jennifer, Mariah, and Elijah Whitmire.
