Charles Edward Westbrooks, 80, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at his church, Christ United Methodist in Independence.
Charles was born January 9, 1940 in Woodstock, GA to Grady and Louise (Simms) Westbrooks. He worked for 28 years for the federal prison service, first as a guard, then as a regional director overseeing 10 states. After being retired for 1 year, he was asked back to run the parole division in the Kansas City, MO area. He retired again, but it wasn’t long until he was called to run the transfer service for the US Marshall. He was also able to work at local banks since he was bonded and able to carry bonds and money from band to bank. After 3 years, he found another position as a secret shopper, which he truly enjoyed for 5 years.
Charles was able to stay home until going to Wilshire Nursing Home at Lakewood, which he loved because they gave him 2 desserts with every meal.
A large part of his life was his involvement in Christ United Methodist Church in Independence where he was active in The Journeymen Class and The Worthless Men Breakfast Group.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannine (John) Westbrooks; his children, Russ Westbrooks, Donna Westbrooks, Troy Caldwell, Heather Morgan, Eric Caldwell, and Chad Caldwell; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Roth of Georgia; Brother-in-law, Ron Roth; niece, Ronda Roth; and nephew, Rick Roth; as well as, 4 great nieces and nephews.
