John Westlund

John Owen Westlund, 89, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 8, 2012. Cremation and burial in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN will take place at a later date. The family requests contributions to Animals Best Friends, 2302 Crysler Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
John was born Dec. 16, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Colorado College in 1947 where he played football and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II where he trained B-17 pilots. After the war, he began his career as a salesman. He enjoyed duck hunting, his dogs, fishing and skin diving.
John was preceded in death by daughter Karolyn Williams and brother James Arthur Westlund. He is survived by daughters Jill Westlund, Independence, MO; Robin Abraham and husband Jim, Eden Prairie, MN; son-in-law Gary Williams and wife Marlene, Independence, MO; grandchildren Andrew Abraham, Lincoln, NE; Beth Ann Abraham, Oshkosh, WI; Garrett Williams, Independence, MO; wife Lois Westlund and daughter Jacque Johnson, both of Florida.
