On Saturday, October 16, 2021 William (Bill) Henry Westmoreland III, passed away at the age of 62.
Bill was born on October 28, 1958 to William H, Jr. and Jan (Kidd) Westmoreland in Richmond, MO. He graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1976. At Fort Osage, Bill had two years of welding. He received a Certificate in Welding at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS. He was employed by Emmert Welding for many years and was a Union Millwright.
Bill loved fishing, boating, hiking, bicycling, motorcycling, racing and travel. In 1998 he spent 3 months in New Zealand hiking from the north tip to the southern tip. Then he spent 2 months in Australia where he was certified in scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. He loved to tease and play with his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Bill also adored his friends and greatly cherished the time he spent with them.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William H, Jr; stepdad August Spencer; Grandfathers Kenneth Kidd and William H. Westmoreland, Sr. Grandmothers Katheryn Kidd and Gladys Westmoreland. He is survived by his mother, Jan Spencer, Independence, MO; sisters Debra Roberts, San Diego, CA; Deborah (Bill) Morris, Lebanon, MO; and Diane Cook, Blue Springs, MO. Brothers, Brad Westmoreland, Mountain View, CA; Barry Westmoreland, Kansas City, MO and David (Karen) Spencer, Independence, MO. Many nieces and nephews and their children and Aunt Ellie (Kidd) Royal, Independence, MO. His dog, Danny Boy and cat, Smokekowski who he “loved to death”.
Bill will be missed by his family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Westminster Hall, 417 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO from 2pm to 4 pm.
