Roland Clayton Wheatley

Roland Clayton Wheatley, a jack of all trades, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 27th. He was 87. Roland was born to Arthur and Estella Wheatley in Wray, Colorado on December 21, 1934.
After graduating from Wray High School Roland continued his education for a few years at Graceland University. Shortly afterwards he landed his career within the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 2. He was a hard worker and spent numerous years with the union before finally retiring in 1999. Roland enjoyed working on things and he never hesitated to lend a hand. When neighbors or churches within the community needed something fixed or built, he was the first person to offer his assistance. Roland was very proud of his craftsmanship and was a talented mechanic as well. He and his late wife Susan enjoyed attending farm shows and auctions together, as well as traveling. They’d visit the Idaho mountains and California when time permitted. Roland was also a proud grandpa. Every year his grandchildren could anticipate receiving dollars bills in the amount of the age they were approaching. Roland was known to be very kind, gentle and quiet and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Roland is survived by his brother, Robert “Bob” Wheatley; step-children, Kim Morgan, Lance Morgan (Christine), Caroline Morgan, Jeremiah Morgan (Rebecca), and as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; brothers, Curtis Wheatley, Duane Wheatley and Lois Glenn; sisters, Lorraine Hammer and Lavonne Leggett; and step-son, Jeff Morgan.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10th from 9-10am at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Funeral Service will begin at 10am with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
