Mildred (Gunter) Wheaton, 100 years and 6 months, of Independence, MO passed away at Rosewood Care Facility on December 3, 2018. In accordance with her wishes, there will be a private graveside service at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Mildred was born May 15, 1918 in Culdesac, Nez Perce County, Idaho to Vernon and Laura Gunter. She has been a resident of Independence, MO since 1938. She was a former employee of Carbon Systems in Kansas City, MO, Lewis Printing Co. and Benton School Food Service in Independence, MO. She was a life-long member of Liberty Street Community of Christ – where she worked with bible school, Cubs, Boy Scouts, and girls work. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother providing child care to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mildred will be remembered by her three sons James and wife Peggy, Duane and wife Nancy, and David and wife Sheila – all of Independence, MO; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence LeRoy Wheaton Jr., three younger brothers Bob, Elbert, and Harley Gunter, and great-grandson Noah Weston.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to One Community Hospice.
