Thelma Louise Wheeler, 84 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Carmel Hills Living Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the Calvary Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church. Thelma was born February 17, 1922 in Sweet Springs, MO to Henry and Clarice (Birchfield) VanBuskirk. She grew up in Hardin, Mo graduating from Hardin High School in 1940. She moved to Independence in 1959. Thelma had worked for the Velvet Freeze Ice Cream Parlors in Independence from 1960 until 1975. She enjoyed children, her dogs and most of all spending time with her family. She was a very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Independence, MO where she enjoyed the activities as well as her church family. She was married to Albert H. Wheeler on June 26, 1946; he passed away on April 18, 1982. Survivors include; 2 daughters, Linda L. Madson and her husband Jerry of Willimantic, CT and Pam K. Wheeler and Rusty Ikerman of Austin, TX; 3 sons, Albert H. Wheeler, Jr and his wife Janet of Aurora, CO, Tom J. Wheeler and his wife Robin of Buffalo, MO and Charles B. Wheeler and his wife Mary Beth of Independence, MO; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
