Roger Allen White, 88, of Independence, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 6th from 6-8:00pm with a service on Friday, September 7th at 2:00pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055.
Roger was born December 22, 1929 in Independence, MO to Vernon and Avis (Hancock) White. After graduating high school, Roger joined the United States Navy, proudly serving in the Korean war. He graduated with an Associate’s degree from Graceland University and went on to receive his B.A. in Engineering from MU. Upon graduation, Roger worked for TWA, helping his team develop the “auto-pilot” feature for the airline industry. Roger was employed as an electrical engineer for Lockheed Missiles and Space Co., where he retired after 32 years of faithful employment. He was also active in the Community of Christ Church, holding the office of High Priest. He loved writing, traveling- having been to 40 countries and all 50 states, playing the ukulele and singing, but his passion was his family. Roger is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Judie White in 2009, and his brothers Bob White and Ed Webster. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Mary Swick (Roger) of Independence, Elizabeth Fluke (David) of Shelton, WA, Jennifer Andersen (Eric) of Boise, ID, Julie Caldwell (Hugh) of Independence, MO, and Jill Freeland (Michael) of Independence, MO; sisters, Ruth Bressman (Henry), Carol Armstrong, and Jan Jordison; 20 grandchildren, as well as, 7 great-grandchildren.
