Harvey R. Whiting, 101, Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Rosewood.
Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Cornerstone Community of Christ Church or the donor’s choice.
Harvey was born September 25, 1907 in Clitherall, MN, the son of Delbert A. and Flossie Whiting. He was the eldest of four children, three boys and one girl �" Harvey, Rod, Phil and Laurel. He was employed with Gleaners, Koch Refrigeration, and during WWII he worked for Pratt and Whitney. After the war, he continued his career at Hesse Corporation. While at Hesse, he invented a latch assembly for the company, and Hesse Corporation had it patented. Harvey retired in 1976. He was a lifelong member of Cornerstone Community of Christ and served as an Elder.
He married Rhoda Ann Knight in 1932; they celebrated 68 years of marriage together. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ron in 2001; 2 brothers; son-in-law, Howard in 2001 and his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Patty Askew of Independence; son, Bob Whiting and his wife Margie of Independence; daughter-in-law, Sherry Whiting of Independence; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and sister, Laurel Barnhard of Independence.
