Philip A. Whiting, 91, of Independence, MO passed away on November 10, 2005. Services will be 10 am Monday, November 21st at Carson-Speaks Chapel (1501 W. Lexington Ave. Indep. MO) with interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family Sunday, November 20th from 2 to 4 pm at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to North Care Hospice (2900 Clay Edwards Dr. NKC MO 64116). At age 17 Phil joined the Civilian Conservation Core (CCC) for two years during the depression. He retired in 1974 from Remington Arms. Phil was a life long member of the Community of Christ and over the years served as Boy Scout Leader; Jr. Church Director; In-Betweeners Youth Group; Church School Superintendent; Zion�s League Leader; Asst. Pastor, and Pastor. After retirement, he served as a hospital Chaplain at the Independence Regional Health Center for 10 years. Phil was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be lovingly remembered for his easy smile, the twinkle in his eye, his quick wit, unwavering devotion to his God, and above all, his abiding love for his family. Phil was preceded in death by one brother, Roderick Whiting, and is survived by his wife, Hazel of the home; daughters, Linda Rogers and husband William of Peculiar, MO, Carol Robison and husband Michael of Independence, MO, Kathy Marek and husband John of Independence, MO; brother, Harvey Whiting of Independence, MO; sister, Laurel Fordham Barnhard of Independence, MO; 8 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
