Garrie Wicker, age 69, born and raised in Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 of natural causes. Born March 18, 1947, he was the son of Doris (Michael) Wicker and the late Keith Wicker.
Garrie graduated from Truman High School in 1965 and was a star on the baseball and football teams. He attended William Jewell College before entering the United States Army then deployed to Vietnam where he was promoted to Staff Sergeant of the Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Brigade, 1st Air Calvary Division. He was always grateful and proud that he never lost a soldier under his Command. Garrie was Executive Vice President of Operations at American Catastrophe Environmental Services then went on to work as Project and Safety Coordinator for Jackson County Public Works Department. He was an avid reader and loved to travel. In his spare time he also enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, fine dining and had a thirst for knowledge.
He is survived by his two daughters; Joddie and her husband David of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Kerrie of Overland Park, Kansas; loving mother Doris; 5 grandchildren, Dustin, Kayla, Kassie, Benjamin, and Daniel; and 7 great-grandchildren; Blake, Liam, Sawyer, Karah, Eva, Jesaleigh, and Bentllie. He is also survived by his two brothers, Randy and his wife Marianne of Independence, Missouri and Ken and his wife Sharon of Independence, Missouri; two nephews Adam and Aaron; and many other loving family members.
Visitation for Garrie Wicker will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 6:00pm-8:00pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel at 18020 East 39th Street Independence, MO. Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 20109 MO-13 Business Higginsville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Disabled Veterans. The family would love to see stories and memories of Garrie on the guestbook or condolence page.
