Kurt Wienke, of Lee’s Summit MO, passed away at John Knox Hospice on March 28th at the age of 60. Kurt is preceded in death by his wife Debbie Wienke (Carr) and his parents, Ralph and Georgia Wienke. Kurt is survived by his loving daughters Sarah Wienke, Katie Wienke and Katie’s partner Katie Cox along with his siblings Cheryl Foster, Mike Wienke and Robert Wienke. Kurt was born in 1957 and graduated from Raytown Senior High in 1975. Looking back at his classic 70’s style it’s apparent Kurt was the inspiration for Matthew McConaughy’s iconic look in the movie Dazed and Confused. But it was a different 70’s film classic that was Kurt’s favorite. The quote “Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges” from Blazing Saddles always made him smile. Kurt often shook his head thinking back to how ornery he and his siblings were growing up. He loved them very much and was truly amazed they survived their rambunctious childhood. Kurt married in 1977. He was married for 33 years before losing his beloved wife to breast cancer. As a married couple, he and Debbie started their own business, went to drag races, traveled and had two beautiful daughters. He taught his eldest daughter, Katie, how to perform a piledriver while she was still in diapers and loved championing her soccer and softball talents. They were two peas in a pod. His youngest daughter, Sarah, an independent girl, provided him much delight. He would jokingly assert she’d been abducted by aliens as a child. Kurt loved watching Sarah cheer as well as giving her dating advice. Sarah attributes her Dad for teaching her how to love unconditionally. In addition to his family, Kurt enjoyed his job at Pepsi, classic cars, dune buggies, reptiles, pro wrestling and BBQ. Kurt was a good-natured man who will truly be missed by all those that loved him. Special thanks to the many family, friends and caregivers that supported Kurt at the end of his life. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM on Saturday, April 1st with funeral services on Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St., Independence MO 64055.
