Denzel Irene Wikle, 80, North Platte, NE formerly of Lees Summit, MO passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013. Irene was born May 9, 1933 in Osawatomie, KS the daughter of Harley “Jack” and Grace E. (Jones) Weaver. She had worked at the Kansas City Star as a linotype operator, and after raising her sons, worked for and retired from UMKC as an assistant librarian.
Irene enjoyed reading, bird watching, fishing, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Irene is survived by her husband Bayliss of 58 years; sons and their spouses, Shawn and Christina Wikle, Jeff and Sun Ya Wikle, Tim and Suzanne Wikle, Chris and Carolyn Wikle; grandchildren, Julie (Jarrod) Sims, Olivia, Jill, Nathan, Jessica and Andrea Wikle.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Cedeño; brothers, Donald and Lawrence Weaver; and her parents.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 on November 2 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO 64055. Graveside services will be at 12:30 November 2 at Antioch Cemetery, 75th and Antioch, Overland Park, KS. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com. Memorial donations in memory of Irene may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
