Mary Lois Williamson, 98, of Independence, MO passed away, Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Rosewood Health Center. Visitation will be 10-11:00 am Monday, December 8, 2003 at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Services will be 11:00 at the chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Mary Lois was born October 12, 1905 in Independence, MO to William H. and Julia Ida (Bean) Williamson. Home Economics Educators in Kentucky and the nation are indebted to Mary Lois for her unique and creative leadership and service for 46 years. Miss Williamson came to Kentucky with college degrees from Kansas State and Iowa State Universities. After teaching at the University Training School, Bryan Station High and Versailles High School she taught some classes in the UK College of Education and served as Itinerant Teacher Trainer for the University. She joined the Kentucky State Department of Education where she was State Director of Home Economics from 1938 to 1969. From there she served as Director of Supporting Services for the Kentucky Bureau of Vocational Education until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the Stone Church, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, American Vocational Association, Kentucky and Independence Teachers Association, and State Supervisor of Home Economics (KY) State Department of Education. Surviving Miss Williamson are her nieces Sarah Walsh (Jim) of Sun City, AZ, Elizabeth Williamson of Kaysville, UT; great nieces and nephews Peter Williamson (Lorna), Matthew Williamson (Terumi), Charles Walsh, Jennifer Kiefer (Michael), Andrew Walsh (Anna) and great-great nephew Isaac Walsh.
