Wilma Lee Thornton, 97 of Blue Springs, MO passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Cedarhurst of Blue Springs. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Traditions Health and Hospice, 220 NW RD Mize Rd., Blue Springs, MO 64014. Wilma was born November 11, 1926 in Pittsburg, KS to Oscar Alexander Brett and Mary Adeline (Harder) Brett. She grew up in Pittsburg, Ks and graduated from Pittsburg High School. Later after marrying she moved with her husband and son to Kansas City, Kansas for 17 years before relocating to Independence, MO area. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed traveling, and rose gardening in her spare time. She was married to John W. Thornton, Jr and they enjoyed many years together before his passing on September 29, 2012. She is survived by; a son, John L. Thornton and his wife Barbara of Bradenton, FL; 2 grandchildren, Lindsay Wiles and her husband Nathan and Wes Thornton and his wife Angela and 5 great grandchildren, Hannah Grace Wiles, Austin Wiles, Gabby Wiles, Grayson Wiles and Meyer Thornton.
