Velma Irene Wilson, 94 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052.. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. There will be a graveside service to be held at 3:00 p.m., in Pleasant Springs Cemetery near El Dorado Springs, MO where her and her husband owned a farm and raised their children in their early life. Donations may be made in her name to the Homeless Veterans Organization of Kansas City. Velma was born October 12, 1924 in Nebraska City, NE to William and Beryl Lavesta (Miller) Janes. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed sewing, insect photography, flower gardening, puzzles, target shooting and was quite good with a gun, stamp and coin collecting and tending her fish pond. She had also volunteered at the school library where her children attended. She supported the war effort at an early age by sewing on patches for the soldiers from WWII and continued to do so clear up through Desert Storm. She was Baptist by faith and had attended Susquehanna Baptist Church. Survivors include; a daughter, Linda Weeks and husband Joseph of Kansas City, MO; 3 sons, Delbert W. Wilson and wife Brenda of Independence, MO, Clifford Wilson and wife Myrna Sue of Holt, MO and Raymond Wilson and wife Tyra of Independence, MO; a brother, John Janes of El Dorado Springs, MO; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband Earl Wilson in 1999, a daughter Norma Jean Wilson in 1949, a sister, Evelyn Martin, a brother, Lloyd Janes and a grandson, Milton Carl.
