Bob Windes, age 75, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cameron, MO. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, May 22 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel. Committal will follow at noon at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Bob was born in Kansas City, MO on July 8, 1938 to Harry A.Windes and Dorothy (Askey) Windes. He was the eldest of six siblings and is survived by three brothers, Bill, Pat and Mike and two sisters, Ramona and Maribeth. Also left to cherish his memory are his daughter Charese Windes of Houston, TX; his wife of thirteen years Phyllis Mader Windes of Lee’s Summit, MO and her children: Jill Francis and husband Freddie of Raytown, MO and Dr. Jared Fortman and wife Kelly of Santa Rosa, CA; grandchildren Bailey Fortman-Banks, John Fortman, Henry Fortman, Xavien Francis and Fahryn Francis as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA, and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. After military service he served in the Merchant Marine based in Honolulu, where he met Claudette Saathoff. They married and lived in Kansas City, MO, where Charese was born. They later lived in Anchorage, AK, and Boerne, TX.
Bob was an entrepreneur. At one time he owned the largest commercial janitorial service in south Texas. He was a partner in a woodworking business in Boerne, TX, providing restaurant accessories. He retired in 2001 from the City of Rio Rancho, NM where he was Janitorial Supervisor for the city.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Missouri Veterans Home, 1111 Euclid, Cameron, MO 64429.
