Elizabeth A. (Wise) Winter, 86, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away, Saturday, October 11, 2008 at her residence. The family will greet friends from 10 to 12:00 a.m., Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel followed by private family services and burial in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Truman Medical Center at Lakewood Charitable Foundation for long-term care. Elizabeth was born April 15, 1922 in Chicago, IL to George Harden and Elizabeth (Puhse) Wise. She attended Monticello Preparatory School and College, Godfrey, IL graduating in 1941 with an AA degree. She was married to Richard H. Winter on March 11, 1941. Following WWII she moved back to Independence where Mr. Winter was employed at Standard Oil Company. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, MO, P.E.O Sisterhood, a sustaining member of the Jr. Service League, and formerly a member of the Independence Young Matrons. She spent 50 years and 10,000 hours as a volunteer for various organizations in Jackson County, MO and Honolulu, Hawaii. She was proud to be one of the organizers of the MCI Auxiliary 1970-71 and served as its first president for 2 ½ years. She is survived by: her husband Richard “Dick” Winter of the home; her three children, Richard Winter and wife Floy, Patt Lawlor and husband Jim and Bob Winter and wife Sandy; 5 grandsons, Kevin Brown, Rich Winter, Mike Winter, Tom Winter and Chris Gehm and 7 great grandchildren.
