The most giving and beautiful soul, Janet Susan Wittek, 63 of Independence, MO passed away, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital. Services 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the chapel. Jan was born December 27, 1952 in Kansas City, KS to Edward and Sophia (Oszman) Wittek and has been a lifelong area resident, living in Independence for the last 35 years. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1970, received her bachelor’s from Benedictine College and her master’s in special education from MU. She worked for over 36 years as a physical education teacher for Lakeview Woods and was instrumental in the school’s success and survival. She volunteered her time many years for Special Olympics, MOCSA and the Red Cross and was truly passionate in helping children with special needs. She also enjoyed soccer, yard work, minions, Mickey Mouse, antiquing and most of all spending time with her family. She is survived by; her wife, Kelli Ring of the home; children, Korby and Katie; granddaughter, Shelby Ward; sister, Mary Hoytal of Prairie Village, KS, sister-in-law, Cindy Wittek, 4 nieces, Angie Albee, Kristie Pawlowski, Dr. Carey Pawlowski, and Laura Bodnar, nephew, Dr. Brian Wittek; 7 great nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Linda Calvert, brother-in-law, Jerry Calvert and wife Sandy and their children, Austin Calvert and Erin Kennedy; and numerous special friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Philip Joseph Wittek in 2001 and sister, JoAnn Pawlowski in 2004. Jan was an amazing, giving and loving person who will be deeply missed.
