Clifford W. Wood, 97, of Independence, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Independence Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 15th, at Speaks Midtown Chapel, followed by burial in Mound Grove cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Monday. The family suggests contributions in lieu of flowers to the Community of Christ Stone Church. Clifford was born March 16, 1906 in Gainesborough, Saskatchewan, to the late Lancelot and Mary Wood. Mr. Wood moved to Independence in 1937. He worked for many years as a Night Watchman for the Community of Christ Auditorium. Clifford was very proud of having worked on B-52 bombers during World War II. Mr. Wood attended and also was an Elder at the Community of Christ Stone Church. He is preceded in death by his wife Edna Viola Wood, two brothers, Frank and Theo Wood, one sister, Eleanor Mountenay, and two nephews Wane Wood, and Lloyd Mountenay. Clifford is survived by six nieces: Marilyn Soddaby, Cherry Niesen, Tina ___________, Lila Read, Audry Fishley, and Beatrice Fishley; three nephews, Monty Wood, Roy Mountenay, and Ross Mountenay; great nephew, Tom Mountenay, of Lamoni, Iowa; great niece Jane Cochran, Blue Springs, MO; and numerous other nieces and nephews throughout Canada.
