Emerson H. Wood, 91, of Independence, MO. died Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at Independence Regional Health Center from complications of a fall. There will be a private family burial service on Friday afternoon at Mound Grove Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2003, at College Park Community of Christ, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Temple Endowment Fund or Outreach International. Mr. Wood was born November 14, 1912, in Grindstone City MI, to Robert and Lottie (Minard) Wood. He graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1932. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Volz, on July 8, 1934, who preceded him in July of this year. They made their home in Harbor Beach for 30 years. Emerson was the manager of the Community Theatre and Mihlethaler�s Department Store. The family was transferred to Sidney, Ohio for a brief period of time until Emerson accepted a position as assistant administrator at Resthaven in Independence, MO in 1967. After their retirement, they spent winter months in South Texas and Arizona. He was an Elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Community of Christ) and served as bishop�s agent, pastor or whatever role was needed. He shared ministry with many people throughout his life. Mr. Wood is survived by three children: Sandra K. Hunt and husband Ronald, Independence, MO; Thomas T. Wood, and wife Bonnie, Salt Lake City, UT; and Larry E. Wood and his wife Ruth Ann, Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; four sisters: Margaret, Bernice, Barbara (Wallace) and Ruth, as well as many loved nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Burton.
