Matthew Michael Wood

Matthew Michael Wood, 42 of Lee’s Summit, MO peacefully passed away, Sunday, July 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial “Celebration of Life Service” will be at 2:00 p.m. held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at New Springs Community Church, 1800 NE Independence Avenue, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the local Lee’s Summit Habitat for Humanity, and local cancer and/or organ donation organizations. Matthew Michael Wood was born July 25, 1973 in Des Moines, IA to Jay and Nancy (Drake) Wood. Matt graduated from Lincoln East High School in Lincoln, NE in 1992 and then continued his education at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He graduated in 1997 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. From age 14, Matt met his beloved Kacy Holland. Matt began a highly successful 18 year career with Black & Veatch Inc. in Overland Park, KS as a Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager. Matt’s entire life focused around his wife Kacy, his five beautiful kids and his church. Matt will be truly missed by his wife of 21 years Kacy; children Whitney, Claire, Jackson, Alex and Kate; his parents Jay and Nancy Wood; sisters Kim (Rick) Schroeder, Maggie Wood Kennedy (David Deshaies); brothers Jason (Stacy) Wood, Tim (Heather) Wood; grandmother Roemell Wood; in-laws Brad and Connie Holland, Greg and Jody Jones; and 16 nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents Austin and Margaret Wood, Leonard and Lois Drake. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to employees and staff of Black & Veatch Inc., medical staff, Crossroads Hospice, Pastor Dave Moore and precious friends and neighbors.
