Ruth Wood

Ruth M. Wood, 88, Independence MO, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2003, in the Rosewood Health Center following a short illness. A memorial service for Ruth will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at 3:00 pm in the College Park Community of Christ. A private family graveside service at Mound Grove Cemetery will take place prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Temple Endowment Fund or Outreach International. Ruth was born on September 9, 1914 in Minden City, MI to the late Will and Jennie (Clark) Volz. In 1931, Ruth graduated from Harbor Beach High School in Michigan. Her high school romance with Emerson Wood resulted in their marriage of 69 years on July 8, 1934. Ruth and Emerson made their home in Harbor Beach, MI for 30 years. After a brief time living in Sidney, OH, the family moved to Independence in 1967. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling to Michigan for family reunions and spending winter months in South Texas. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ. She actively participated and was a great support in congregations wherever they lived. Ruth is survived by her husband Emerson of the home, daughter Sandra K. Hunt (Ronald) of Independence, MO, sons Thomas T. Wood (Bonnie) of Salt Lake City, UT and Larry E. Wood (Ruth Ann) of Kansas City, MO, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and cousins and many nieces and nephews. The memory of Ruth�s life will be treasured by her family members and a host of friends.
