Darlene Dorothy Woods (Beeson)

Darlene Dorothy Woods, 92, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021. Cremation is planned, with a memorial service to be planned for a later date. Darlene was born December 12, 1928, to Chet Beeson and Vera Dixon, in Chicago, IL. Darlene attended Mason high school and after graduation she start the first of many jobs. In 1955 Darlene married Jeptha Baker (J.B.) and they enjoyed 57 happy years together before JB’s passing in 2012. It was not until later in her life that Darlene homed in on her passion for accounting, when she started her work at UMKC in the accounting department. Darlene was probably the most bullheaded, the most loving and caring he would ever meet. Her granddaughter Chelse, said it best when she said “Grandma wasn’t the grandma that was there if you wanted something; she was the one that was there if you NEEDED something”. Darlene had her own business designing and decorating “Kewpie” dolls, which she was very good at. She will be remembered as a loving grandmother to her many grand and great grandchildren. Darlene shared a special relationship with her best friend of 60+ years Gracie, and her best friend, Edie, friend of 30+ years. Left to cherish Darlene’s memory are grandchildren, Chelse (Andrew) Ruckdeschel, Brandi Woods, and Ashley Woods; 7 great-grandchildren; and dearest friends, Gracie Joplin and Edie McAllister. She is preceded in death by her husband, JB; son, Richard Ross; brother, John Beeson; and dear friend, Clyde Joplin.
