Evelyn “Irene” Woods, 99, of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Irene was born to Edgar and Effie Biggs on January 12, 1922 in Appleton City, Missouri.
Irene never met a stranger. She enjoyed visiting with people and volunteered her time in many clubs and organizations over the years. One thing that Irene loved to do often was to dress up as a clown and travel to local children’s hospitals to put smiles on the faces of those struggling. Irene had many talents. She was an incredible seamstress and enjoyed embroidering, she liked to bake and everyone looked forward to her coconut cream pies. Irene also spent her time playing bingo and trying her luck at casinos. Her vibrant personality and giving spirit will be missed greatly.
Irene is survived by her sons, Mike Woods (Diane) and Kenny Woods; grandsons, Jarred Woods (Jenny), Jason Woods, Jeff Woods (Ashlee) and Brett Woods (Ellen); granddaughter, Kristen Morris (Brent); daughter in law Gwen Woods; great grandchildren, Mya and Bryson Burris, McKenzie, Preston, Bennett, Elliana, Jace, Isaiah, Izabella, Theodore and Eloise.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, William and son, Harvey Woods.
A visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 17, 2021 from 9-10am at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Her funeral service will begin at 10am with burial to follow at Appleton City Cemetery at 2pm. Donations can be made in memory of Irene to a charity of your choice.
