Iris Cleota Nicoson Sanderson Wright, 98, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019. A visitation will be from 9-10am on Saturday, September 14, 2019, with memorial service at 10am, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. Iris was born in Center Point, Indiana to the late Wayne S. and Iona (Youngblood) Nicoson on July 3, 1921. She grew up with four brothers and one sister on a rural farm in Indiana. Iris met Estes, her first husband, after high school. World War II occurred at this time and Estes went to service in the Pacific theater. Iris moved to Indianapolis for work in the rivet factory, her job was to inspect the rivets. Estes and Iris were married in 1947 after he returned from the war. Their son, Dan, was born in 1951. Unfortunately, in 1961 Estes passed away. In the summer of 1966 Iris and Dan moved to Kansas City to be near her sister, Mary. Iris and Dan lived in Northeast Kansas City. Iris worked for the Jones Store Company downtown Kansas City as security. Iris remarried William Wright in the early 1970’s. Iris retired from the Jones Store Company in 1986. Iris enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers, she enjoyed bowling, taking care of her two grandchildren, going to church, and Sunday breakfast. Iris is survived by her son, Dan Sanderson; granddaughter, Andrea (Seth) Allen; grandson, Chad (Cami) Sanderson; and great grandsons, Griffin, Henry and Archer. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Lloyd, Warren, Donald, and Myron; sister, Mary Arola; first husband, Estes Sanderson; and second husband, William Wright. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park.
