Jo Ann Wright, 84, passed away on January 27, 2016. A visitation will be held on Sat., Jan. 30, 2016, from 6-8pm, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Feb. 1, at 10:00am, at Our Lady of Presentation Parish, 130 NW Murray Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Burial at Leavenworth Cemetery will occur at 10:00am Tuesday, Feb. 2.
She was born on July 27, 1931 to Charles E. & Josephine (Puhr) O’Brien. She attended grade school at Holy Name Catholic School in Rosedale, KS. In 1949 she graduated with the very first graduating class from Saint Agnes High School in Kansas City, KS. She married CWO2 Robert L. Wright (Ret.) on March 31, 1951. Significant duty stations include: California, Hawaii, Maryland, the Philippines, Delaware, Ethiopia, and Florida. After Bob retired from the Navy they moved to St. Joseph, MO where she worked to put Bob through college. Upon completion of Bob’s schooling they moved to Garland, TX where Jo Ann took a job teaching computer information systems at Eastfield College until her retirement in 1996. Bob and Jo Ann retired to Holly Lake Ranch near Tyler, TX where Bob died in 1997. Jo Ann moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO in 2005. Jo Ann was very active in John Knox Village and at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit.
She is survived by: daughter Catherine Scott (Keith) of Independence, MO, Granddaughter Whitney Worley (Jordan), Great-granddaughter Isabella, Grandson Lucas Scott; Daughter Teresa McKenzie (James) of Leesburg, VA Granddaughter Kara Fulop (Erno) Granddaughter Courtney Hale (Aaron) Grandson James McKenzie III. (Blair); Son Robert L. Wright Jr. of Houston, TX, Granddaughter Jillian Lowry and great-granddaughter, Granddaughter Kaitlyn Lowry, Grandson Alex Lowry, Granddaughter Amber Hornsby, Granddaughter Galyn Wright Brother Charles O’Brien Jr. (Joan) of Green Valley, AZ.
