Alice Elizabeth (Betty) Wurdack-Swenson, 80, Independence, MO passed away peacefully on June 7, 2006 at her daughter�s home in Kansas City, MO. Services will be 10 am, Monday, June 12, 2006 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice or Cancer Action. Betty was born on Nov. 17, 1925 in Independence to Benjamin and Genevieve Peel. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1944 and attended the University of Kansas City. She married Robert Brent Wurdack II on Sept. 23, 1949. Betty was known for her wonderful laugh, her passionate love for dancing and spending time playing with her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing and floating on houseboats. One of her favorite pastimes was square dancing and line dancing, and she belonged to the Kountry Knights & Ladies and B-Tweens. She was a colon cancer survivor for 23 years and crocheted afghans for Cancer Action for a number of years. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Raymond, and husbands Robert Brent Wurdack II and Kenneth Swenson. Survivors include twin daughters Karen S. Maddox and husband John; Karol A. Yount and husband Roger; son Robert Brent Wurdack III and wife Tammy; seven grandchildren: John Maddox and wife Sonya; Michael Maddox and wife Kara; Amy Maddox; Christian Fuller and wife Cristal; Megan Pfannenstiel and husband Ross; Robert B. Wurdack IV; Michael Wurdack; six great-grandchildren and one on the way.
