H. Irene Wyatt, 98 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park care center. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Private inurnment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stanley, KS. Donations may be made in her name to Alzheimer’s Associations or to National Federation of the Blind. Irene was born January 20, 1920 in Brookfield, MO to John White Thomas and Faye (Bachman) Thomas and has been a long time area resident. She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and later worked with her husband at the Carl Wyatt Insurance Agency until she retired in 1993. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed reading and making bread regularly. She was a member of the Crescent Creek Baptist Church, the National Federation of the Blind where she was received the Jacobus tenBroek Award. Survivors include; 2 sons, Dennis W. Wyatt of Kansas City, MO and Joe S. Wyatt of Orlando, FL; 3 sisters, Virginia M. Dehm Green City, MO, Betty Jo Gerst of Independence, MO and Billie F. Roberts of Orrick, MO; a brother, Carlyle E. Thomas of Milan, MO; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl W. Wyatt in 1995 and a son, E. Duane Wyatt.
