Kenneth William Wyss, 86, passed away on August 30, 2014. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 9:00-10:00am, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO, 64055, with a service to begin at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Mount Washington Cemetery.
Kenneth was born on May 4, 1928, to Charles and Freida (Peters) Wyss in Jefferson City, MO. He joined the Navy and served two years as a seaman on a tanker. He accompanied Rear Admiral Byrd’s brave expedition to the South Pole. Kenneth met and married Colleen Kaullen in 1950 in Jefferson City, MO, and later settled in Independence, MO. He worked as a meat specialist for Kroger Company and Fleming Foods for many years.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing, spending time at his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, his grandkids, and dancing and going on cruises with Colleen. He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, the Moose Lodge, and the Shriners.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Wyss. He is survived by his wife and dancing partner of 64 years, Colleen; brother, Leon Wyss and his wife, Elizabeth; son, Mickey Wyss and his wife Susie; daughter, Roxanne Wyss-Bateman and her husband Robert Bateman; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
