Rosalie J. Yates, 81, Independence, MO passed away unexpectedly Nov. 18, 2013. Services will be 10 am, Sat., Nov. 23 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Oak Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church, 10th Street, Oak Grove, MO 64075. Rosalie was born June 25, 1932 in Madison, IL, one of sixteen children. She graduated from Salem (MO) High School before moving to the Kansas City area. She worked at Sears and Roebuck’s main store on Truman Rd. & Cleveland Ave. for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1990. She was a member of the church and loved to volunteer at the Better Living Center distributing food and clothing to the needy. She was a huge Chiefs and Royals fan. Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband Bennie Yates, a brother and a sister. She is survived by her son Ben Yates and wife Carla; granddaughter Kristin Matthias and husband David; great-grandchildren Madison & Mason Matthias, all of Independence, MO; seven brothers, four sisters and many other family members.
