Kenneth E. "Ken� York, 85, Independence, Mo. died July 15, 2004 at the Medical Center of Independence. Memorial services will be 7 pm, Monday, July 19 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Cremation. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Independence Salvation Army. Ken was raised in Springfield, Mo., graduating from Springfield High School and Southwest Missouri State University. In Springfield, he was a member of the Farnsworth Chapter of DeMolay and awarded the Degree of Chevalier. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of WW II serving in the South Pacific Area. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Ernestine Schumann-Heink, Chapter 2; Tiery J. Ford American Legion Post #21; Past Commander of the Fifth District American Legion; Past Chairman of the City Central Executive Committee; Past member of the Kansas City Trust Assoc.; and Past Chef De Gare of Voiture trios, The Forty and Eight. Ken was also a former member of Independence Avenue, Roland Park, Oakley and St. Mark�s United Methodist Churches, a past Kansas City North District Lay Leader, a former certified Lay Speaker, and a current member of the Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Frieda York of the home; sons and daughter-in-law Joseph and Elaine York, Overland Park, KS; Michael and Cindy York, Indep., MO; daughter and son-in-law Marjorie and David Werner, K.C., MO; grandchildren Crystal Riggs, Jeremy Werner, and Laura York.
