Frederick Lee Young

January 2, 1922 — March 27, 2004

Frederick Lee Young, 82, of Independence, MO passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the Rosewood Health Center. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, at the Geo. C. Carson and Son�s Funeral Home. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5:30-7:30 at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Kansas City Hospice or Community of Christ Blue Ridge Congregation. Frederick was born on January 2, 1922 to Willis and Zadie Young. He spent five years in the US Army as a Tech Sgt. during WWII. He graduated from MU-Columbia in 1948 with a Journalism Degree. Frederick went on to be employed as the Secretary of the North Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, worked for the city of Kansas City North, and served as the Executive Secretary of the Kansas City Real Estate Board. He was recruited by the Community of Christ Church to work as the Executive Secretary to the Presidency of the Church, as well as the General Church Secretary and World Conference Coordinator. He continued to serve the Church in various capacities for over 30 years. Upon retiring in 1985 he continued his ministry and had time to spend on his hobbies of birdwatching and performing and teaching the harmonica. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucy Barber Young; two daughters, Kris Kent of Mililani, HI and Andrea with husband Stuart Sheffield of Waukesha, WI; two grandchildren, 1st Lt. Ian Ashurst, USAF with wife Janel of Yigo, Guam and Whitney Sheffield of Janesville, WI; two great grandchildren, Jason and Meghan Ashurst of Yigo, Guam; one brother, Robert with wife Doroles; a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
