Jay Dee Young, 80, of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday March 17, 2004 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Tuesday March 16, 2004 at the chapel. Burial will take place in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Jay was born March 25, 1923 in Richards, MO to William D. and Zilpha A. (Jones) Young. He graduated from Bronaugh High School in Bronaugh, MO. Mr. Young was a heavy equipment operator working out of the local union #101. Jay was in the Army during WWII in the South Pacific (New Guinea and the Philippines) in the 866th Aviation Engineers Battalion. Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley L. (Davis) Young of the home; sons Monte J. Young (Connie) of Fresno, CA and Galen L. Young (Shirley A.) of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren Clinton J. Young (Denise), Courtney E. Young, Rachelle R. Speer (Jason) and Andrea L. Toney (Aaron); 3 great-grandchildren Kaeli, Chloe and Cobe Jay; brother Joel Young of Clovis, NM and sister LaRue Fengler of Moundville, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
