Shirley Laverne Young, 92 of Blue Springs, MO passed away, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at St. Mary’s Manor. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Shirley was born September 29, 1924 in Bronaugh, MO to Vernon Virgil and Erma (Hohn) Davis and has been a longtime area resident. She had worked as executive secretary for Kidder Peabody, a stock brokerage firm in Kansas City for 30 years until she retired in 1984. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, bird watching, gardening and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Baptist Church and was in charge of the 866th Aviation Engineering Battalion reunion group. Survivors include; 2 sons, Monte J. Young and wife Connie of Fresno, CA and Galen Young and wife Shirley A. of Blue Springs, MO; 4 grandchildren, Clint Young and wife Denise, Courtney Young, Rachelle R. Speer and husband Jason and Andrea L. Toney and husband Aaron and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay Dee Young in 2004.
