Velma Isabell Youngblood

August 9, 1916 — March 17, 2005

Velma Isabelle (Grove) Youngblood, 88, died, on March 17, at the Truman Care Center at Lakewood, where she had been a resident. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Carson Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., Tuesday until service time at the chapel. Mrs. Youngblood was born August 9, 1916 in Fort Worth, TX a daughter of Robert and Mabel Grove. She moved in her youth to Kansas City/Independence area where she worked briefly for Unity Village in Lee�s Summit. On September 23, 1939, she married William Roy Youngblood, and for the next 63 years of marriage, prior to Roy�s death in 2002, she was a loving and faithful partner. Through all her years, she affectionately exercised the tasks of her chosen vocation as wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Mrs. Youngblood leaves behind to celebrate her life a son, William Michael Youngblood and his wife Lori of Evanston, Illinois; a daughter, Janna Dee Powell and her husband James of Weston, MO and four grandchildren; Jamie, Jeff, Nathan and Jacob. Also surviving are a sister, Margo Atkinson and her family of Santee, CA and a niece Sue Dance and her husband Danny and family of Kansas City. Also celebrating Mrs. Youngblood�s role in their lives are her adopted family of the last two and one-half years, the residents and staff of 3 south, Truman Care Center at Lakewood. Velma Youngblood was a charter member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church of Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Kansas City or the Calvary Presbyterian Church Independence, MO
