Joseph Monroe Zelk, 88, Independence, MO, passed away Monday, July 28, 2003, at his home. Services will be Friday, August 1, at 10:30 am at Speaks Midtown Chapel; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 9:30-10:30 am at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Waldo Restoration Branch Youth Camping Fund. Mr. Zelk was born December 7, 1914, in Comins, MI, to Joseph and Alice (Barringer) Zelk. He had lived in the Independence area since 1946. He was a homebuilder, and worked in new home construction for Andes & Roberts for many years, operated his own business, and worked with two of his son�s in their own companies. He had been active as a Boy Scout and Zion�s League leader at the Blue Ridge RLDS congregation, and loved traveling and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Waldo Restoration Branch. Mr. Zelk is survived by wife, Helen (Campbell) Zelk, of the home; three sons, J. Kenneth Zelk and his wife Lucille, and John E. Zelk and wife Carole, all of Independence MO, and Mark A. Zelk, of Aliso Viejo, CA; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice Zelk, Canton OH; and many other loving relatives and friends.
